20th February | Leaders Barwell extended their
lead to 12 points with a battling 1-0 win at Stratford. The teams traded early
chances before the Canaries scored after 11 minutes. Adam Wykes struck a free-kick
that crashed against the underside of the bar and Kevin Charley was quickest to
react, knocking the loose ball over the goalline for his 24th league goal of the
season. Two minutes later, Jemiah Richards had a chance to level but shot wide.
Stratford's Mark Smith headed across goal to Richards. His header looked set to
be an equaliser but Liam Castle dived to palm the ball away. In the second
half, Barwell came under aerial bombardment, but the Canaries back four held out.
Barwell went close to a second goal on 56 minutes when Francino Francis had a
header cleared off the line by Dennis Pearce. In the 88th minute, Stratford's
Tom Warner was sent off for a challenge on Barwell substitute Pele Orton. |

13th February | Barwell's dream of going
to Wembley is still alive after they reached the quarter-finals of the FA Vase
for the first time. The Canaries edged out Willand Rovers of Devon 2-1 after two
hours of compelling football in a fifth-round replay. Their reward is a home tie
against Norton & Stockton a week on Saturday. Willand's James Ansell volleyed
narrowly wide in the early stages. Barwell hit back and Jamie Towers had a header
from an Adam Wykes free-kick turned over the bar. Five minutes from half-time,
a cross by Willand substitute Joel Hawes caused confusion in the Barwell defence
and David Steele slotted home. Barwell got the boost they needed a minute after
the resumption. Kevin Charley hit a shot against the Willand bar and, from the
rebound, Adam Cunnington headed into the net. Barwell goalkeeper Liam Castle produced
an incredible save to deny Cliff Brown five minutes from the end of normal time.
Barwell scored the winner six minutes into extra-time . Cunnington strode forward
from the halfway line, shook off three defenders, rounded visiting goalkeeper
Brian Cann and, from an acute angle, fired into the far corner of the net.The
last few minutes were nervy but Barwell held on. |

6th February | After
twice taking the lead against their Devon opponents, Barwell couldn't quite find
the winning goal on Saturday (6th) that would have taken them though to the quarter
finals. Not even the addition of 30 minutes' extra time was enough to separate
the two sides, so they will have to try again on Saturday (13th) with a replay
at Kirkby Road. The Canaries must have though they were on their way to victory
when Kev Charley gave them the lead from the penalty spot after 20 minutes, but
Willand equalised just before half-time. Jamie Towers then gave Barwell the lead
once more with only 15 minutes to go, but their joy was short-lived. Within three
minutes the home side had found another equaliser to take the game into extra
time. |

| Saturday
30th January | Barwell
came within a minute of losing their unbeaten league record on Saturday. Up against
their main promotion rivals, Coalville Town, they were trailing to a first half
goal when Kev Charley popped up in the 89th minute to earn the Canaries a share
of the points. The visitors went ahead as early as the 17th minute and the longer
the game went on, the more it looked as if it would prove to be the decisive goal. |

| Tuesday
26th January | Kev
Charley's hat-trick helped Barwell to victory against Biddulph on Tuesday night
and ensured they remain unbeaten in the league this season. He opened the scoring
in the 10th minute and then added a second nine minutes later to put the Canaries
well in control of the game by half-time, even though the visitors pulled a goal
back after half-an-hour. Charley wrapped up his hat-trick - and the points - with
a penalty midway through the second half. |

23rd January | The
Canaries are still flying in the FA Vase after overcoming Shortwood Town in their
4th Round tie. Barwell now face a trip to Devon on Saturday 6th February to play
Western League side Willand Rovers in the next round, with a place in the quarter
finals awaiting the winners. It took a penalty goal by Kev Charley a minute
before half-time to swing the match in Barwell's favour. Adam Cunnington then
gave the Canaries a bit of breathing space when he put them two up after 61 minutes,
with Liam McDonald sealing the victory with a third goal in the last minute. |

19th January |
Barwell entertained Kirby in this re-arranged fixture from Boxing Day. The first
half saw Barwell dominating with Kirby giving Barwell too much room which resulted
in Barwell having 8 shots to Kirby's one. The go-ahead goal came on the 40th minute
when a long ball over the top was despatched by Kev Charley. The second half
Kirby had most of the play but couldn't make it pay off. As Kirby pushed for the
equaliser there was a lapse at the back and Kev Charley sealed the win in the
89th minute and keep the points at Kirkby Road. |

December 2009 | Leaders Barwell stretched
their unbeaten league run to 21 games as they overwhelmed bottom club Cradley
Town. That means that, in 11 away matches, the Canaries have scored 48 goals and
conceded only one. The Canaries had to wait until the 32nd minutes to break the
home side's resistance when the league's leading scorer, Adam Cunnington, scored
his first of the game from 20 yards. Four minutes from half-time, Liam McDonald
scored a fine individual goal against his old team to double the advantage. Barwell
dominated the second half. A superb cross from substitute Jamie Towers was headed
home at the far post by Cunnington. Luke Paskin put through his own goal as Cradley
were subjected to heavy pressure. In the final minutes another substitute, Pele
Orton, netted the goal of the match, dribbling past three defenders before chipping
the ball over goalkeeper Richard Kennedy. Barwell stay 18 points clear of Coalville
Town, who did their best to maintain the pressure with a 2-0 victory at Shifnal. |

December 2009 | Barwell booked a place
in the last 32 of the FA Vase with a 2-0 home victory over last season's finalists
Glossop North End. The Canaries marched on with a goal in each half in front of
their biggest crowd of the season, 306. Glossop started well and, after seven
minutes, forced a terrific save from home goalkeeper Liam Castle when he pushed
over a drive from Jason Gorton. Nigel Julien missed a chance for Barwell but the
Canaries went ahead on 21 minutes when Adam Cunnington headed in a Julien cross.
Glossop full-back Jamie Kay shot just over the bar as the visitors hit back. Just
before the break, Barwell almost went two up, Kevin Charley deflecting a Cunnington
cross inches wide. The early stages of the second half belonged to Glossop as
they pushed forward. They won several corners and Richard Bailey hit a post with
a 25-yard drive. However, Barwell broke out and virtually settled the tie after
67 minutes. Bailey handled the ball in the area after a surging run by Canaries
skipper Nick Green and Charley fired home the resulting penalty. Barwell go
on to meet Shortwood United (at Shortwood United) on 16th January. |

November 2009 | Barwell's relentless pursuit
of the league title continued on Saturday (28th) when they visited second-placed
Coalville and came away with a comfortable victory. The demolition of their nearest
rivals means the Canaries remain unbeaten in the league this season and are now
15 points clear at the top of the table. But they had to wait until the stroke
of half-time before Kevin Charley's goal edged them in front. Adam Cunnington
then gave them a bit of breathing space when he scored after 69 minutes and any
hopes the home side entertained of a late rally were dashed by Cunnington's second
goal in the last minute.
Barwell
manager Marcus Law says title talk is banned despite the Canaries now holding
a 15-point advantage at the top of the Midland Alliance table. The Kirkby Road
side made it 17 wins from 19 games with a 3-0 success at second-placed Coalville
last weekend. They have drawn their other two matches in an explosive opening
third of the season. But Law insisted: "The job is nowhere near done and
if I see any complacency among the players I will jump on it. "We've not
played some of the other teams up there and everyone will be looking to beat us."
Law said the 3-0 win over the Ravens "flattered" his side but paid tribute
to the ruthlessness of his strikers. He said: "It was a very close game and
the scoreline probably gives the wrong impression as it was hard-fought all the
way through." Barwell's goals came from Adam Cunnington (2) and Kevin Charley.
They are the leading scorers in the division with Cunnington on 17 and Charley
just one behind. "Our strikers are full of confidence as the top scorers
in the league. We took our chances and I guess that was the difference,"
said Law. "Our centre-forwards are putting in some strong performances. The
other factor is that we have good strength in the squad which means players will
not give up their shirt lightly because they might not get back in the team."
Last season, Barwell finished as runners-up in the Alliance but missed out on
elevation to the Unibond League because only champions Market Drayton Town were
promoted. Source - Leicester

November 2009 | Barwell had few
problems extending their unbeaten league run to 18 games against their struggling
local rivals. They quickly established a lead when Adam Cunnington scored after
only five minutes and then put the game beyond the visitors' reach 10 minutes
later when Adam Wykes added a second. As a result of the win, the Canaries maintained
their 12 points gap at the top of the league. |

November 2009 | Barwell's unbeatable league
form stood them in good stead when they took on Long Eaton in the FA Vase. Although
they took an early lead through Francino Francis in the 7th minute, the Canaries
hopes took a dip when Scott Hadland was sent off. But thanks to the confidence
gained from their outstanding form this seasson, they kept their self-belief and
even managed to extend their lead in the 37th minute, against the run of play.
Leading scorer Adam Cunnington supplied the finish that gave Barwell vital breathing
space at half-time. After the break, the referee evened-up the numbers when
he sent off one of the visitors' players for an over-zealous challenge on Liam
Castle. From that point on, Barwell had the result in the bag. |

November 2009 | It took two second half goals
from leaders Barwell before they could claim victory over struggling Malvern Town.
The visitors put up a stubborn fight against the Canaries, but as the second half
wore on, Barwell showed why they are unbeaten in 16 league games this season. Adam
Knibbs finally gave them the lead in the 67th minute before Adam Cunnington made
the points safe for the Kirkby Roaders with 10 minutes of the match remaining.
Barwell stay nine points clear of the second-placed side in the Midland Alliance. |

October 2009 | Barwell had to stage a
dramatic second half comeback at Kirkby Road on Saturday to preserve their unbeaten
status in the league this season. They looked to be heading for their first
defeat in 15 games when Coleshill Town took a two goal lead into the half-time
break, but in the second half the Canaries showed why they are the runaway leaders
of the Midland Alliance. Kev Charley scored from the penalty spot after 63 minutes
to pull them back into contention, and then scored a second 12 monutes later the
level the match. It was left to Adam Cunnington to score a dramatic last minute
goal to earn Barwell what had seemed an unlikely victory at half-time. |

October 2009 | With a quarter of the season gone,
Barwell remain the team to beat in the Midland Alliance after their latest victory
at Highgate. After 13 games, they remain unbeaten in the league and their lead
at the top of the league has stretched to six points with a game in hand on their
nearest challengers. Scott Hadland opened the scoring midway through the first
half to give the Canaries the advantage at half-time. And any hopes the home side
entertained of getting back into the game were ended midway through the second
half when Kev Charley scored, followed 10 minutes later by Liam McDonald, to put
the result beyond doubt. |

October 2009 | League leaders Barwell maintained
their unbeaten start to the season with a win against Westfields on Saturday.
Although the margin of victory was not as convincing as some of their earlier
results, the Canaries still harvested three points - at a time when their main
title challengers are busily dropping points. Adam Cunnington's early strike after
only 8 minutes promised more goals to come, but they didn't materialise and Barwell
eventually had to rely on a single goal to see them through to the final whistle. |

October 2009 | A double first half strike from
Nigel Julien helped to book Barwell's place in the next round of the FA Vase.
Playing lower league opposition in a cup match can always be a tricky encounter,
but the Canaries made sure there was no giantkilling act when Julien scored two
goals in eight minutes, midway through the first half.It was enough to assert
their control over Wednesfield, who finally admitted defeat when Adam Knibbs put
the game beyond their reach with a third goal after 90 minutes. |

September 2009 | Barwell stretched their unbeaten
start to the season to 11 games as they overcame the resistance of Alvechurch
at Kirkby Road on Saturday. What made the victory doubly sweet was that their
nearest promotion challengers, Causeway United, lost at Coalville, which means
the Canaries now have an 11 point lead at the top of the table. Barwell had to
wait until the brink of half-time before Nigel Julien broke the deadlock and gave
them the lead. They then doubled their advantage at the start of the second half
when Alvechurch's Craig Frost put through his own net. And although Alvechurch
pulled a goal back with five minutes remaining, it proved to be no more than a
consolation for them. |

September 2009 | Barwell stretched
their lead at the top of the league to eight points with this victory over Boldmere
St Michaels on Saturday (19th). Boldmere are one of a clutch of clubs trying to
keep up with the Canaries' flying start to the season, so the win was doubly important.
Barwell took command early on and emphasised their superiority with two first
half goals from Nigel Julien and a third from Jamie Towers.Although Boldmere pulled
one back after the break, it was too little and too late. |

September 2009 | After a couple of disappointing
draws, Barwell re-discovered their eye for goal when they visited Bridgnorth Town
on Saturday (12th). The Canaries had to wait until the 34th minute for Jamie Towers
to open the scoring, but his goal was quickly followed three minutes later by
one from Liam McDonald. Kev Charley secured all three points for Barwell with
a penalty after 66 minutes, while Adam Cunnington completed the scoring with 20
minutes to go. |

September 2009 | Barwell drew their second
game on the bounce as they shared the points with Loughborough University. Jamie
Towers put The Canaries ahead after 46 minutes but Loughborough Equalised on the
86 minute with a Robert Lyall strike. |

September 2009 | After their high-flying exploits
so far this season, the Canaries fell to earth on Saturday when they were held
to a goal-less draw by struggling Studley. Having already scored 42 goals in just
eight games, the last thing Barwell were expecting at Studley was a shut-out,
thereby dropping two valuable points. No doubt manager Marcus Law will be working
to ensure the Canaries are back in the goal-scoring groove in time for Loughborough
Uni's visit to Kirkby Road on Tuesday. |

August 2009 | Barwell marched on at the top of the Midland Alliance with

Cunnington and Nigel Julien two goals each. Second-half goals from Nick Cavey
and Steve Blenkinsop gave Loughborough University a 2-0 win at Oadby. Anthony
Carney's 70th-minute header proved to be the difference as Coalville Town recorded
a 1-0 victory at Coleshill Town. |

August 2009 | Barwell stormed into the second round of the Polymac
Services League Cup with a 6-0 home win over Bridgnorth. The Canaries made six
changes to their line-up from their midweek win but still carried forward their
impressive league form. Bridgnorth could have scored after only 30 minutes, Jason
Pike shooting wide from in front of goal. But Barwell went ahead after 19 minutes
when Peter Saunders's through-ball found Nigel Julien, who slotted it home. VJ
Sidhu worked tirelessly to set up a second goal, Jouel Potter heading his cross
into the net. The Canaries accelerated away in the second half. Julien set up
Paul White to stroke home the third goal on 55 minutes before Sidhu netted a fourth
with an angled drive. Substitute Liam McDonald rounded keeper Darren Walters for
the fifth before Jamie Towers capped another impressive display with probably
the goal of the game, a fierce finish from the edge of the penalty area in the
final seconds. |

August 2009 | Another game - another rout. No-one wants to play Barwell
at the moment as they steam-roller their way through the opening fixtures of the
new season. The Canaries scored another seven at Alvechurch on Saturday (22nd)
to take their goals tally to 24 after just four matches. It took Kev Charley only
11 minutes to open the scoring and he added a sceond after 36 minutes to give
Barwell a comfortable cushion at half-time. After the break Barwell turned up
the power and overwhelmed their opponents with further goals from Liam McDonald
(58) Adam Wykes (60 and 79), Adam Cunnington (67) and Jouel Potter (72). |

August 2009 | BARWELL got their new season
off to a perfect start on Saturday (8th) with a resounding victory over Cradley.
After narrowly missing out on promotion last season, manager Marcus Law will be
delighted to see his side among the league's early pace-setters. Kev Charley started
the rout with a goal after only 10 minutes and Liam McDonald doubled the advantage
four minutes later. And after half-an-hour the Canaries were three goals up after
Adam Cunnington added his name to the list of scorers. There was no let-up after
the break with McDonald scoring his second immediately after the re-start, while
Cunnington rounded-off the scoring after 85 minutes with his second and Barwell's
fifth. |
